Bacon Wrapped Smokies

Bacon Wrapped Smokies (photo by recipegoldmine.com)

My sister-in-law, Jill, first introduced these to our family, and they were a huge hit.  You can keep them warm in a crock-pot once cooked, but they're best right from the oven, crackling hot!

Recipe by: Jill Soyez                                                                          Yield: 10 servings

Ingredients
1 (14-ounce) package beef cocktail wieners
1 pound center cut bacon
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
maple syrup, optional

Directions
Cut bacon slices in half and arrange on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes, or until cooked but not crisp. Remove from oven; cool slightly and drain.

Wrap each wiener in a bacon slice; secure with wooden toothpicks. Return to baking sheet and sprinkle with brown sugar. Bake, uncovered at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes, until bacon is crisp, and wieners are warmed through.

Notes
If putting in a crock-pot to keep warm, pour about a half a cup of maple syrup in the cooker to help keep them moist.
