This recipe was given to me about 20 years ago by a Minnesota co-worker. It was one of his Mom's specialties. Very, very good!!

Recipe by: Mrs. Sorem                                                                         Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients
4 cups apples, peeled and sliced
1 tablespoon flour, rounded
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 pinch salt
3/4 cup oatmeal
3/4 cup flour
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup shortening, melted
1/3 cup water
vanilla ice cream
caramel topping, warmed

Directions
Combine flour, sugar, cinnamon and salt, then mix well with apples.  Pour into greased 8-inch pan.  Combine remaining ingredients (except water) and crumble over apple mixture.  Pour water over all.  Bake 20-30 minutes at 350° until apples are tender.  Serve warm with ice cream and caramel topping.
